Before Depositing

Some preparation is needed before starting a dataset submission to FRDR. You can go ahead immediately with searching for data in FRDR.

  1. Consult your institution’s data librarian and/or consider running Portage's Data Management Assistant planning tool.

  2. Identification and authorization

    a. Obtain an account. Data transfers into FRDR are all done using services from Globus.

    b. Identify the appropriate FRDR Storage Group to which you want to submit your dataset. See Storage Groups in FRDR.

    c. Request your Globus ID be authorized to submit to the storage group you identified above. See Getting authorization to submit.

  3. Gather your submission information

    a. Gather and organize your final version data files and all the information necessary so someone else can duplicate your results.

    b. Collect the metadata for your dataset including name for the dataset, authors and their affiliations, dates, keywords, DOI for any related publications, etc.

    c. Choose a data usage license that should be assigned to your dataset. See Data usage licenses.

    d. Determine whether any embargo period is required to keep the data temporarily restricted.

  4. Identify the Globus Connect endpoint where your files currently reside. Data can only be submitted using Globus Connect software. Use the Globus endpoint name for the institutional server you are using or install Globus Connect Personal software on your own computer.
